MCC & Switchgear Nameplates
MCC and switchgear nameplates are engraved lamacoid plates that identify every bucket, unit, feeder, and device in a motor control centre or switchboard. They carry the equipment tag, function, source, and ratings that let electricians and operators work safely — and because they're engraved rather than printed, they stay legible through decades of heat, dust, vibration, and washdown.
Built for the switchroom
Motor control centres and switchgear live hard lives. A stuck-on label in that environment curls, fades, and falls off — and an unlabelled bucket is a safety and downtime problem. An engraved phenolic nameplate has no ink and no printed film: the lettering is cut through a coloured surface to a contrasting core, so it can't rub off or delaminate. Non-conductive phenolic is also the right material to have around energized gear.
What we engrave
- MCC bucket / unit nameplates — unit number, motor served, HP, and starter type
- Feeder and branch labels — circuit designation, fed-to, and ampacity
- Switchgear cubicle ID — section, breaker, and bus identification
- Main and tie-breaker plates — source, voltage, and phase
- Bus bar and cable ID — matched tag sets across the lineup
- Danger / warning plates — arc-flash, high-voltage, and lockout callouts in red/white
Match your spec exactly
Most switchgear and MCC drawings specify the nameplate down to the detail. We engrave to match:
- Colours: black/white and white/black for standard ID; red/white for danger and warning; custom combinations on request
- Thickness: 1/16" for flush unit tags, 1/8" three-ply for rigid standalone nameplates
- Layout: multi-line text, framed borders, and consistent character heights across a full lineup
- Mounting: pre-drilled holes for screws or rivets (standard on switchgear), or adhesive backing where appropriate
Consistent lineups, fast turnaround
Whether you're a panel builder outfitting a new MCC lineup or a plant electrician replacing damaged unit tags, we keep character heights, colours, and layout consistent across the whole set. Engraved nameplates are priced by area at about $1.14 per square inch, with most orders shipped in 1–3 business days.
We engrave in Burlington, Ontario and supply switchgear builders, integrators, and facilities across the Greater Toronto Area, shipping Canada-wide. Send us the nameplate schedule from your drawings and we'll return a laid-out set ready to install.

Frequently asked questions
Can you produce a full nameplate schedule for an MCC lineup?
Yes. Send the nameplate schedule from your switchgear or MCC drawings and we'll engrave the complete set — bucket IDs, feeder tags, and warning plates — with consistent colours, character heights, and layout across the entire lineup.
What material are switchgear nameplates made from?
Standard switchgear and MCC nameplates are engraved from multi-layer phenolic (lamacoid), which is hard, rigid, chemical-resistant, and non-conductive — the right properties for identification on and around energized electrical gear.
What thickness should an MCC nameplate be?
Flush-mounted unit tags are typically 1/16", while standalone or framed nameplates use 1/8" three-ply for rigidity. We'll recommend a thickness based on how the plate mounts and whether it stands alone or sits flush on the cubicle.
How do switchgear nameplates mount?
Most switchgear and MCC nameplates are screw- or rivet-mounted with pre-drilled holes, which is the standard for permanent industrial identification. Adhesive backing is available where drilling isn't practical.
Do you match existing nameplates on a lineup?
Yes. If you're replacing damaged tags or extending an existing lineup, tell us the colour combination, character height, and layout and we'll match the existing nameplates so the finished switchroom stays consistent.
