When to use lamacoids: the jobs lamacoid labels and tags do best

A lamacoid (also spelled lamicoid) is a two-colour engraved tag. The top layer is one colour and the core is another, and the engraving cuts through the top to show the core underneath. That simple idea is why electricians, plant maintenance crews and facility managers reach for lamacoid labels and lamacoid tags. Here are the jobs where they shine.

01When the label has to outlast the job

Equipment stays in service for decades. A lamacoid is made for that kind of life: the wording is cut into solid material, so it reads the same in year twenty as on the day it was installed. When you want to label something once and never think about it again, this is the tag.

02Electrical panels and breakers

Panel IDs, breaker tags and directory plates are the most common lamacoids we make. They tell the next electrician what the panel is, what feeds it and which breaker does what.

• Panel ID: PANEL LP-2A with voltage and source underneath.
• Breaker tags: small 1/2" × 2" plates beside each breaker.
• Fed-from and feeds: the plate that saves someone a trip across the building.

03Disconnects and equipment feeds

A disconnect should say what it controls. A lamacoid on the door with DISC-3 · FEEDS RTU-2 means whoever opens it knows exactly what goes dark. This is one of the most useful tags on any site, and one of the quickest to order.

04MCCs, switchgear and control panels

Motor control centres and switchgear lineups carry dozens of buckets and sections. Engraved bucket tags and section plates, all in the same font, size and colour, make a lineup easy to read at a glance and easy to match against the drawings. See MCC and switchgear nameplates.

05Push buttons, selectors and pilot lights

Legend plates sit around operators on a control station: START, STOP, HAND · OFF · AUTO. They get touched every shift, so they need lettering that is cut in, not printed on. See legend plates.

06Valves, pumps and piping

Numbered valve tags on a chain or wire, and plates on pumps and tanks, tie the mechanical room back to the valve chart. A matching numbered set is the fastest way to find the right valve when it counts. See engraved valve tags.

07Solar PV and energy storage installs

08Equipment nameplates and asset IDs

09Warning and caution plates
