Engraved plastic tags. Cut to your wording, in Burlington.
Engraved plastic tags are ID plates cut from a two-colour plastic sheet. The laser removes the top colour, so the letters show in the colour underneath and there's no ink to wear off. In Canada they are usually called lamacoids. We make them in Burlington, Ontario and ship across Canada, same day once the proof is approved.

What are engraved plastic tags used for?
Identification that has to stay readable: electrical panels, breakers, disconnects, valves, pumps, control stations and machines. If someone needs to read the tag years from now to know what a piece of equipment does, an engraved plastic tag is built for that job.
| Job | Typical tag | See |
|---|---|---|
| Panel name and voltage | 1" × 3" or 2" × 4" | Breaker and panel labels |
| Breaker ID | 1/2" × 2" | Breaker and panel labels |
| Valve number on a chain | 2" × 2" with one hole | Valve tags |
| Machine or pump ID | 3" × 5" | Equipment nameplates |
| Pushbutton legend | Sized to a 22 mm or 30 mm device | Legend plates |
| Warning or danger plate | Up to 4" × 6" | Warning labels |
What kind of plastic are the tags made from?
Two-colour acrylic engraving laminate. A thin coloured layer sits on a core of a contrasting colour. It's rigid and it doesn't conduct electricity. 1/16" (1.6 mm) is the everyday thickness, and 1/8" makes a stiffer plate for larger sizes or tags that hang.
The lamacoid material page has more detail. If your spec names a certain grade, send it with the order and it gets confirmed before anything is cut.
How do plastic tags attach?
Three ways: adhesive backing, drilled holes for screws or rivets, or both on one plate. Hanging tags get one hole for a chain, wire or zip tie.
- Adhesive suits clean, flat, indoor surfaces like an enclosure door.
- Screws or rivets suit heat, vibration, outdoor spots and washdown areas.
- A hole and a chain suits valves and pipe.
What colours do plastic tags come in?
We stock black/white, red/white, carbon/white and white/blue, written background first. Other colours, including yellow/black caution tags, are quoted on request.
The colour guide covers what each pair usually means.
Are plastic tags better than metal or stickers?
For most electrical and indoor plant ID, plastic is the practical choice. It's light, it doesn't conduct, and the letters can't peel off the way a printed sticker does. Metal has its place where a spec calls for it or heat rules plastic out. We don't make metal tags.

How do I order plastic tags?
Send one row per tag: wording, size, colours, quantity and mounting. Email it to sales@llamacoids.ca or build it in the Lamacoid Builder. There's no minimum, so one replacement tag is fine. You get a PDF proof before anything is engraved.
More questions
Do you make acrylic tags too?
Same product. Our plastic tags are two-colour acrylic laminate. See engraved acrylic tags for what that means for a spec.
Can a plastic tag go outside?
Yes, on rooftop units, solar equipment and EV chargers. Screw it on rather than relying on adhesive, and say on the order that it's going outside.
Do you make plastic tags for crafts, gifts or luggage?
No. These are engraved ID tags for equipment and buildings. For gift tags or luggage tags, a craft or promotional shop is a better fit.
