Llamacoids / All lamacoids / Acrylic tags
Engraved acrylic tags. Two colours of acrylic, one plate.
An engraved acrylic tag is a rigid ID plate made from two-colour acrylic laminate. A thin coloured surface is bonded to a contrasting core, and the laser cuts through the surface to form the letters. Everything we engrave in Burlington, Ontario is this material, at 1/16" or 1/8" thick, in four stocked colour pairs.

How is an acrylic tag different from clear acrylic?
Clear or solid acrylic sheet is one colour all the way through, so engraving only frosts the surface. Two-colour laminate has a cap and a core in different colours, so the engraved letters show up in a contrasting colour with no paint or ink.
| Two-colour acrylic laminate | Clear or solid acrylic | |
|---|---|---|
| Letters | The core colour, cut through the surface | Frosted, or filled with paint |
| Usual job | Electrical and equipment ID | Displays, signs, gifts, crafts |
| What we make | Yes | No |
If you came here for clear acrylic keychains or wedding tags, that's a different product and a craft shop will serve you better.
How thick are acrylic tags?
1/16" (1.6 mm) is the everyday thickness, and it suits panel tags, breaker tags and labels that mount flush. 1/8" gives a stiffer plate for larger sizes, standalone plates and hanging tags.
What sizes can you cut?
Any width and height, in inches or millimetres. Half an inch tall is a practical minimum for one readable line. Plates are cut from 24" × 24" sheets, so call before planning anything close to that.
| Size | Area | Common use |
|---|---|---|
| 1/2" × 2" | 1 sq in | Breaker tags, small device IDs |
| 1" × 3" | 3 sq in | Standard equipment and panel tags |
| 2" × 4" | 8 sq in | Panel identification plates |
| 3" × 5" | 15 sq in | Equipment nameplates |
| 4" × 6" | 24 sq in | Warnings, directories, large machinery |
The size chart matches sizes to jobs and letter heights.
Can acrylic tags go outdoors?
Yes, and they're used on rooftop units, solar equipment and EV chargers. Screw them on with stainless or brass hardware, since adhesive is the weak point outside. Engraving alone doesn't set an outdoor-life rating, so say where the plate is going and the grade and mounting get confirmed for that spot.

Does my spec allow acrylic?
Check the wording. A spec that says "lamacoid" or "lamicoid" is using a product name, not a material grade. If it names a substrate, thickness, fire rating or chemical rating, send that part of the spec with your order and it gets confirmed before engraving. We engrave to your wording and don't certify installations.
More questions
Is acrylic the same as lamacoid?
Lamacoid is the common Canadian word for the finished engraved plate. The plates we make are two-colour acrylic laminate.
Do acrylic tags conduct electricity?
No. The laminate we run is rigid and non-conductive, which is one reason it's used on electrical equipment.
Can you add a logo to an acrylic tag?
Yes. The Lamacoid Builder takes an optional logo, or send the artwork with your order.
