Plastic nameplates. For machines, motors and switchgear.
A plastic nameplate is a rigid engraved plate that identifies a piece of equipment, usually with an asset number, a name and sometimes a location or source. We laser engrave them from two-colour acrylic laminate in Burlington, Ontario, from one replacement plate to a full equipment schedule, and ship across Canada.

What goes on a plastic nameplate?
Whatever the person reading it needs. A simple asset plate may only need an ID and a description. A larger machine plate can carry several lines.
| Line | Example |
|---|---|
| Asset number | PUMP P-101 |
| Name or service | PROCESS WATER |
| Location | LOCATION: MEZZANINE |
| Source or feed | FED FROM MCC-1 BUCKET 4C |
Use the identifiers from your own equipment schedule. These are sample layouts, not a customer job.
What size should a plastic nameplate be?
3" × 5" is the common starting point for an equipment nameplate with a few lines of detail. Smaller plates like 1" × 3" work for a name and a number. Pick the letter height from how far away the plate gets read, then size the plate to hold the wording.
The size chart has letter heights and reading distances.
How do plastic nameplates mount?
With adhesive backing, drilled holes, or both. For holes, give the diameter and the centre-to-centre spacing. Use screws where heat, vibration, washdown or outdoor exposure would defeat an adhesive.
Can you replace an old nameplate?
Yes. Send a clear photo and measurements of the old plate, including its holes, and say which details stay and which change. The measurements make sure the new plate fits the holes already there.
If the plate has electrical ratings, serial numbers or a certification mark, send the correct source information. We engrave what's supplied, and a replacement plate doesn't certify the equipment.
Can you do a whole schedule of nameplates?
Yes. A spreadsheet with one row per plate is the fastest thing to quote, and it keeps colours and text heights the same across the job. Volume tiers apply at 25, 50 and 100 pieces. The builder's bulk order reads .xlsx, .xls and .csv files.
More questions
Are plastic and acrylic nameplates the same?
On our shop floor, yes. Every plastic nameplate we make is two-colour acrylic laminate.
Do you make nameplates for switchgear and MCCs?
Yes. See MCC and switchgear nameplates for bucket IDs, feeder tags and lineup plates.
Do you make metal nameplates?
No. Everything we run is two-colour acrylic laminate. If a spec calls for metal, it needs a metal nameplate shop.
